Food Trip: Taiwan Day 1

I visited Taiwan last month for five days. During our research days, on where to go and where to eat, what really caught our attention was there was so much food to try! Lot of night markets and restaurants to choose from. We had a hard time fitting everything in our whole stay. We just chose those which are near to our hotel and to the tourist spots we visited.

I will share our food trips while in Taiwan and will try to recall every detail from day 1 to day 5.

Day 1:

When we arrived early in the morning, we slept at the airport and waited for the first train to operate. We then left our baggage at the hotel lobby and started exploring Taipei City. The first snack that we bought was called Delimanjoo.

We saw this stall at Jiantan MRT station and it smelled so good we were tempted to buy. For 50 NTD, we were able to get around 8pcs. Soft mini cakes with custard inside.. yum!

Our first stop was at Tian Yuan temple. We were disappointed to see only 1 Cherry blossom tree left  so we just moved on to our next destination which was Tamsui Old Street. Too sad we did not find rice meals there. We just opted for popcorn chicken and squid and a tall soft serve for dessert.

We regretted buying this tall baby here. It was so difficult to finish!! Anyways, you have an option to buy half of this height for a lower price (around 20NTD). This costs 35NTD btw.

After our lunch, yes that was already our lunch, we proceeded to our next stop, which was Yang Ming Shan park. Our disappointment on our first stop was replaced by amazement and a happy heart! We saw lot of cherry blossom trees along the way and in the park itself! Spent few hours admiring the cherry blossom trees. :)

We were then so tired so we decided to rest and freshen up at the hotel. Our last stop for the day was Shilin Night Market, which was just few steps away from our hotel. It was really crowded. With all the stalls selling different food and stuff, you will be tempted to try all! We decided to stick to our "list of food to try" and these were what we had:

1. Long cut fries and Dimsum (it's similar to Xiao Long Bao)

The fries cost 100NTD while the dimsum costs 50NTD. We got to chose two flavors for the fries which I already forgot and we waited for around 5 minutes for them to cook it. We enjoyed eating the fries. We do not have this in the Philippines!😁 The dimsum was okay, 4pcs for 50 NTD.

2. Oyster Vermicelli

It costs around 25 NTD. It's like Misua in the Philippines but had a thicker soup and more flavor-y. The cilantro was overwhelming tho. The vendors allowed us to stay in front of a temple. We were not shy to eat this in public because everyone who were in front of the temple near the stall were also eating this soup :)

3. Milk tea

Of course who would miss drinking authentic milk tea in Taiwan? It was the first thing we looked for when we arrived. I got chocolate milk tea with pearl and pudding.

4. Hot Star Large Fried Chicken

This stall has the longest queue. From the moment the stall opened in the afternoon until few minutes before it closed in the evening, there has been a line of people wanting to buy fried chicken. But they served fast so it was not a problem. We chose the spicy one and there was nothing special except for its size. It was really large. The breading has all the flavors while the chicken meat was plain. If you've been to Chickilicious at SM North EDSA, then you already have tasted this fried chicken.

So that ends our Day 1 food trip. :)

To be continued....
