Food Trip: Thuk Thuk Restaurant and Pastries
Last month, I got to spend his birthday with him for the first time in x years that I've known him. It really was a special day for me (as if I was the celebrator) for it was a dream came true. I've always wanted to do this before but our schedules never met. Finally, it happened.
I arrived from Taiwan around 6am at NAIA that day. Went home to quickly freshen up and to leave my baggage then traveled to Tarlac with no sleep at all since 7am of the day before. You know someone is special when you sacrifice sleep just to be with him. :)
I attended the afternoon worship service first then had body massage and dinner afterwards.
I've been a lover of Thai food ever since Pad Thai was introduced by a colleague. There was this stall in Mandaluyong, Sen Lek, that serves (the best) Pad Thai and still is the best for me. Too sad we transferred to Quezon City and never had the chance to buy from Sen Lek because it's too far.
When he sent me pictures of a new restaurant near his place, I never had an idea that it is a Thai restaurant. Then a friend posted on Facebook that this restaurant is indeed a Thai restaurant (woohoo!), I told him then that we try their food.
I'm glad Thuk Thuk Restaurant and Pastries recently opened in Concepcion, Tarlac, which is just less than an hour drive/ commute from Angeles City. The place is too cozy and they set it up too creatively!
There are literally Thuk Thuk (Tuk Tuk, 3 wheeled vehicle) in the restaurant. Luckily when we arrived, the rain has stopped so we had the chance to dine in on the Thuk Thuk. We just had to turn off the light to avoid the tiny insects that keep on coming whenever the light is on.
For dinner, we had Tom Yum soup, Chicken Pandan and of course, Pad Thai.
Cravings satisfied!! I love their food!! It is affordable yet they met my expectations! The Pad Thai tasted better than Purple Pad Thai's (Thai stall in SM Clark food court) and it was served generously but still, Sen Lek's is the best for me. Chicken Pandan was really tasty and for the Tom Yum, was just fine but if you are not used to its taste, I bet you won't like it, just like him.
It was funny how he reacted the first time he tasted Tom Yum soup and asked me if that was delicious for me hahaha. He said the two (Chicken and Pad Thai) are edible for him except for Tom Yum. At least Pad Thai is okay for him which means I can still drag him again to another Thai restaurant.
Summary of my thoughts:
PROS:
1. Authentic Thai Food
2. Affordable (Food is good for 1-2pax)
3. Generous serving
4. Cozy and creatively designed restaurant
CONS:
1. There were lots of insects when we were there, I'm not sure if that was because of the rain prior our visit or its location
2. In case of rain, you will not be able to dine in comfortably because it is an outdoor restaurant
OVERALL RATING: ☆☆☆☆☆
I really loved our dining experience! I'm not being biased because I love Thai Food and all, but if you are looking for authentic Thai food plus a comfy ambiance (with Thuk Thuk in it), then this restaurant is for you.
I will definitely come back! :)
